Reporting to the Advisor, Gender Equity/Fire Services, the Coordinator, 2SLGBTQ/Gender Equity (Community Outreach and Research) provides expertise to all HRM business units in the development, implementation, and support of community engagement initiatives with 2SLGBTQ+ and gender diverse community. The position will promote innovative community engagement programs by working with business units to identify opportunities for improved participation and outreach strategies in 2SLGBTQ+ and gender diverse community. The position is the lead in community outreach and collaboration efforts of the Gender Equity section of the Office of Diversity & Inclusion/ANSAIO. In addition to providing expertise in community outreach, the advisor will also lead ongoing analytical and research initiatives to support the development the gender equity 2SLGBTQ+ strategies and Office of Diversity and Inclusion framework and strategies.
For a detailed list of duties and responsibilities, please email jobs@halifax.ca referencing '9589BR -Β Coordinator, 2SLGBTQ & Gender Equity'.Β DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:- Under the guidance of the Gender Equity Advisor, builds relationships with community partners and leaders, public/private agencies, non-profits and government bodies to support 2SLGBTQ+ and gender inclusion services in HRM
- Maintain a current knowledge of the diversity, equity and inclusion environment in Halifax with an emphasis on the 2SLGBTQ+ and gender diverse communities
- Support community engagement programs and techniques in the 2SLGBTQ+ and gender diverse communities
- Supports the Gender Equity Advisor to assist business units to identify opportunities for improved participation and outreach strategies in 2SLGBTQ+ and gender diverse communities, and in addressing recommendations from Council or related reportsΒ
- Support the development and implementation of municipal 2SLGBTQ+ and Gender Equity Strategies
- Support development and delivery of inclusive public consultation, participation and engagement processes for these communities
- Conduct jurisdictional scans on key issues and trends pertaining to 2SLGBTQ+ and Gender diverse community
- Provide assistance with the roll out, evaluation and adaptation of training modules for HRM staff on topics relating to 2SLGBTQ+ and gender inclusion
- Promote and encourage employment opportunities to members of the 2SLGBTQ+ and gender diverse people within HRM and the community
- Contribute to the promotion, implementation and ongoing review of HRMβs Diversity and Inclusion Framework
- Assist in the production of reports, presentations, training and workshops
- Clearly understand HRM's role with respect to diversity and inclusion, distinguish between HRM responsibilities relative to its internal operations, processes and priorities and those of partners, other levels of government and the private sector
QUALIFICATIONSEducation and Experience:- Post-secondary education in Social Sciences, Social Work, Community Development, 2SLGBTQ+, Gender and Sexuality or Equity studies or other relevant discipline
- Candidates who do not possess the formal education requirement but who possess equivalent experience as demonstrated by professional, volunteer, or community-based leadership experience will be considered
- Minimum two (2) yearsβ experience working and/or volunteering directly with 2SLGBTQ+ and/or gender diverse communities in the field of community engagement and outreach, equity, inclusion and/or diversity as demonstrated by professional, volunteer, or community-based leadership experience
- Experience in the field of equity, inclusion and diversity
- Experienced and knowledgeable in the design and delivery of culturally relevant programming and community engagement strategies
- Experience in developing constructive working relationships with people from diverse cultural backgrounds, including those associated with race, ethnicity, national origin, religion, socioeconomic status, age, gender, disability, sexual orientation, and/or other aspects of human diversity
- Knowledge of culturally appropriate ways of working with equity-deserving communities
- Experience in facilitating training an asset
- Experience working in a diverse and decentralized organization, ideally in the public sector is considered an asset
Technical / Job Specific Knowledge and Abilities:- Knowledge and understanding of 2SLGBTQ+ and gender diverse communityβs social, educational and municipal issues/needs
- Experience and skill in conducting research and developing quality research reports
- Strong organizational, written and verbal communications skills, problem-solving ability and teamwork
- Ability to facilitate engagements and planning process using inclusive practices, action results-based plans, maximize use of available resources, use innovation to access new resources, monitor results and adjust accordingly
- Understanding of the cultural diversity among 2SLGBTQ+ and Gender diverse community in Canada and within the HRM
- Exercise tact, diplomacy, respect and good judgment in building relations, alliances and actions strategies with others to implement the Diversity and Inclusion Framework and to carry out HRM priorities
- Experience in dealing with significant organizational change
- Ability to work within a fast-paced environment with all levels of management and staff
