Grant Coordinator

In this role, you will be instrumental in designing a comprehensive funding strategy for the Sustainability 2030 Plan and key initiatives throughout Planning & Public Works. You will also be responsible for the submission of grant proposals and building relationships with community-based organizations and other local governments to support their capacity to apply for funding. You will also contribute to the writing of grant narratives.
 
We are looking for you to apply their experience working with local government and knowledge of funding opportunities to identify priorities and apply for state and federal grants.  You will work with County planners and managers to determine budget and project scope. You will also lead the grant application process and act as a liaison between the grantor and Pierce County. Your knowledge of local, state, and federal laws regarding grants will be an asset to the team and your efforts will have a direct impact on the community in which you live.

Core Daily Responsibilities:

• Lead the development of grant proposals, concept papers, and other departmental reports and ensure timely and accurate submission of competitive and non-competitive proposals and renewals to funding entities, including monitoring compliance with all department and funding entity guidelines, timetables, and deadlines.
• Perform pre-grant submission duties including review of proposal guidelines; composition and distribution to County staff on Notice of Funding Opportunity (NOFO), Request for Proposal (RFP), Request for Application (RFA) summaries and timelines; collection and/or organization of administrative proposal documents; and preparation of proposal applications.
• Maintain an internal database of granting opportunities.
• Coordinate with collaborating departments and external partners on schedules, project management documents and deadlines, and development of new and/or securing current materials and resources for inclusion in proposals.
• Act as liaison within the Planning & Public Works department to support alignment of strategic funding needs. Provide document editing, proofreading, and formatting assistance for review and dissemination.
• Research, identify, analyze and make recommendations on grant opportunities, including identifying associated grant restrictions and conditions.
• Assist with determining grant application priorities.

Minimum Qualifications:

• A resume and cover letter are required for this position. 
• Please briefly describe your grant writing and coordinating experience in your cover letter. The cover letter will be reviewed and used in the selection process. 
• An equivalent combination of experience and education that clearly indicates the ability to perform the essential functions of the position may substitute for the recruiting requirements on a year for year basis.
• A bachelor’s degree in business administration, public administration or related field.
• Two years of grant coordination experience is required. 

• Project management experience is highly desired.
• Positions in specific program areas may require program-related experience, education and/or training.
• Experience working in local government or a similar, hierarchical organization.
• Experience leading a diverse team through a grant submission process.
• Knowledge of topics related to sustainability, education, solid waste, and climate change issues.
• Experience facilitating meetings and developing agendas, both virtual and in person.
• Experience working with community-based organizations in the Puget Sound region.
• Familiarity with government and foundation electronic grants systems/portals.
