Description

The Inclusion Companion provides on-site assistance to participants of all ages with physical, developmental or emotional disabilities as they integrate into general City of Oregon City Parks and Recreation camps and programs. Duties include adapting activities, following inclusion or behavior plans, maintaining a safe environment and promoting a participant's success in a program.

HOURS:Β These positions are on-call, as needed and with variable hours.
Camp and Aquatic program hours are Monday through Friday, 9:30 a.m. toΒ 4:00 p.m.,
8:30Β a.m. to 11:30Β a.m., or 11:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Hours are determined by camp & aquatic program schedules and on-call availability Β  Β 

Examples of Duties

  • Consult with Aquatic and Recreation Supervisor or Camp Director to get information regarding participant before start of classes
  • Call family/participant ahead of time to talk about meeting on the first day of scheduled activity
  • Participate and assist in the water during activities with participants
  • Provide support to participant during class and/or swimming lessons. Camps include water activities
  • Make adaptations to ensure participant's successful inclusion into class
  • Demonstrate a positive and supportive attitude towards people with disabilities
  • Able to work independently
  • The Inclusion Companion does NOT provide transportation, toileting or transferring of participants
  • Report all accidents/incidents to Aquatic and Recreation Supervisor or Camp Director immediately
  • Maintains records of activity participation
  • Maintain confidentiality at all times
  • Performs other job related duties as assigned

Typical Qualifications

Knowledge of ADA (American with Disabilities Act) goals, principles and types of modifications.

  • Ability to utilize appropriate behavior modification techniques and positive reinforcement.
  • Modern principles & practices of therapeutic recreation designed for developmentally disabled & special needs population.
  • 1 year experience working with physically, developmental or emotionally disabled individuals
    • Valid Oregon Driver's License, and good driving record.
Current First Aid & CPR certification, required
