The American Urological Association (AUA), the premier urologic association providing support to the urologic community, is currently searching for anΒ Advocacy CoordinatorΒ position. Β 

This position’s primary function is to work with a high level of initiative to develop, support, and activate all components of the AUA’s patient advocacy strategy. Will help with the implementation of the current Policy and Advocacy Strategy Plan by coordinating and assisting in the growth of a proactive urologic patient advocacy strategy and coordinate patient-related state advocacy and grasstops initiatives.Β 

This position is located in our headquarters office in Linthicum MD. Β Our office is near the BWI airport. Β We are required to be in the office on Tuesdays/Wednesdays with remote working on Mondays/Thursdays/Fridays.

Typically

The individual in this position:

  1. Identifies and pursues opportunities to capture synergy, maximize impact, and achieve alignment between the AUA’s state advocacy and patient advocacy agendas and initiatives, including opportunities to fund policy or advocacy initiatives through the AUA General Advocacy Fund.
  2. Assists with researching, developing, and disseminating patient advocacy updates, advocacy-related resources, government relations articles, newsletters, fact sheets, and other materials for AUA members and other internal and external stakeholders.
  3. Tracks the latest state developments of importance, preparing agendas, minutes, and other materials for AUA’s state advocacy committee or the Public Policy Council.
  4. Serves as a liaison to and coordinates all components of the Prostate Cancer Impact Alliance, the Kidney Cancer Impact Alliance, and the Bladder Health Alliance
  5. Cultivates impactful relationships with stakeholders, patient advocacy organizations, and AUA physicians to advance AUA, Inc.’s patient advocacy strategy, policies, and positions and regularly engages patient communities for feedback.Β 
  6. Works in concert with the State and Patient Advocacy Manager on outreach to the AUA Sections, state medical societies and sub-specialty organizations to gather critical intelligence about their local, state and regional issues.Β

To be Successful

Candidates must be able to provide superior service delivery while working in a fast-paced, detail-oriented environment.Β It is essential that the individual in this role have strong attention to detail, initiative and networking competencies.Β In addition:

  • Bachelor degree in political science, public relations, public policy, public health, health policy preferred.
  • 3+ years of experience with patient advocacy activities. Experience directly engaging with patient advocacy organizations and/or nonprofits in the healthcare/health policy space a plus.
  • Proficiency in project management, event planning and organizing, stakeholder management, and collaborative leadership.
  • Experience in public policy research and analysis as well as the working of the political and legislative process.
  • Outstanding oral and written communication, attention to detail, ability to handle multiple projects, and organizational skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to successfully build relationships and work collaboratively and effectively with advocacy partners, volunteers, and peers while meeting deadlines and project goals.
  • Demonstrated ability to be socially and politically aware of advocacy partner position statements and advocacy priorities.Β 
  • High proficiency in Microsoft Suite of services (Word, Excel, Power Point, etc.) and the ability and willingness to learn new technologies as required. Β

Salary range for this position is $72,000 - $74,000 a year.

Please note this is a base compensation range and, as such, there is no guarantee you will be offered the maximum amount for the position. Your base compensation will be determined by your overall qualifications, which will be assessed based on your knowledge, skills, competencies, and years of experience.
