Description

As a key leader in the Division of Student Experience at Emory & Henry University, the Assistant Dean of Student Affairs and Diversity, Equity & Inclusion provides oversight and leadership for comprehensive student affairs programs and services designed to enhance the overall student experience for the graduate and undergraduate students within the School of Health Sciences (SHS) on the E&H Health Sciences Campus in Marion, Virginia.Β  The Assistant Dean of Student Affairs and Diversity, Equity & Inclusion will also work collaboratively with the Health Sciences campus leadership, faculty, and staff to foster an inclusive campus community and promote equity for all students. The Assistant Dean will work collaboratively with members of the division on the Emory campus, serving on various committees that bridge functional areas across the university.

Duties & Responsibilities:Β 

Β 

Administrative LeadershipΒ 

  • Provide leadership and vision for the continued growth and improvement of the overall student experience for the graduate and professional students on the Health Sciences campus.
  • Advise the Dean of the School of Health Sciences on matters pertaining to student affairs on the Health Sciences campus.Β 
  • Support the E&H, School of Health Sciences mission, vision and strategic plans.
  • Serve as direct supervisor for the Coordinator of Student Success and Accessibility, providing leadership, support, and advocacy for academic support services and accessibility services for students of the Health Sciences campus.
  • Develop key collaborative relationships with campus and program leadership, faculty, and staff, as well as community leaders, to enhance the planning and implementation of strategic student affairs initiatives.
  • Serve and/or chair committees as appropriate.

  • Maintain and update Catalog policies as they relate to student conduct, policies, and services.

Student Conduct

  • Serve as the Chief Conduct Officer for the Health Sciences campus, including enforcement of the Student Code of Conduct and coordination of the adjudication and due process procedures as they relate to student behavior.
  • Provide leadership and guidance in the analysis, review, creation and interpretation of institutional, campus and program-specific student policies and procedures.Β 
  • Maintains working relationships with local authorities and the community regarding student behavior off campus.Β 

Academic and Student Life

  • Work with student leaders to address pressing issues on the SHS campus.
  • Serve as the liaison with local landlords and town leaders to facilitate resolution of student housing issues
  • Advocate for students’ residence life needs within the University.
  • Serve as a Title VI and Title IX Responsible Individual for the SHS campus.
  • Work collaboratively with campus and student leaders to explore opportunities for expanding student life experiences on the Health Sciences campus (i.e., campus recreation, health and wellness, student organizations).
  • Plan and implement activities and events to help foster a sense of student belonging and well-being.
  • Serve as an advocate for students regarding issues or needs that can impact student success and/or retention.
  • Collaborate with Department Chairs and the SHS Registrar in the process of students submitting medical leave and withdrawal paperwork.

Safety/Crisis

  • Work collaboratively with E&H Campus Police, local law enforcement agencies, and community service agencies to ensure campus safety policies and procedures reflect best practice.Β 
  • Respond to student emergency situations and other unusual events impacting students within the Health Sciences Campus Community.
  • Handle all student hospital visits and the associated follow up.Β 

Diversity, Equity & InclusionΒ 

  • Foster an inclusive campus community and promote equity for all students.Β 
  • Oversee outreach to diverse student populations to support institutional diversity and inclusion goals.Β 
  • Establish and maintain positive community relations that contribute to the College’s ability to influence and improve the local and regional culture or equity and inclusion.
  • Facilitate programming to enhance student knowledge, ownership, and understanding of diversity, inclusion, and equity.

Qualifications

Required Education:

  • Β Master’s degree required, doctorate preferred preferably in student affairs, higher education, college administration, counseling, or other related field.

Required Experience:

  • Experience in higher student affairs and/or student development; Student conduct experience preferred; DEI experience preferred; crisis management experience preferred; Title IX and Title IV experience preferred.Β
