Purpose:

This twelve month, full-time, live-on or live-off position (dependent upon selected candidate’s needs) reporting to the Assistant Vice President for Student Development, will develop and implement co-curricular programs and initiatives that support diversity, equity and inclusion within the Knox College community.Β 


Key Responsibilities:


  • Develop and implement large- and small-scale programs for students, faculty and staff that support diversity, equity and inclusion.

  • Advise and support student organizations interested in organizing around issues related to race, ethnicity, sexual orientation, gender, and their intersections with the goal of fostering cross-cultural interaction and promoting learning about social justice.

  • Serve as designated campus LGBTQ+ advisor;Β develop and implement programming related to the overall success, appreciation and inclusion of LGBTQ+ students at Knox; hold dedicated office hours to ensure availability to LGBTQ+ students.

  • Manage operations of campus Gender and Sexuality Center/Gender Study Commons (GSA).

  • Provide direct support to seven campus cultural centers (6 residential, 1 non-residential).

  • Provide cultural awareness and sensitivity training to students, faculty, and staff as requested.

  • Develop and update website and other resource materials as needed.

  • Work as part of campus-wide duty rotation; respond to after-hour student and/or college emergencies as needed.

  • Other duties and committee appointments as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in higher education, student affairs, counseling, social justice or related field preferred.

  • One to three years experience in student affairs.

  • Demonstrated commitment to the development and implementation of diversity, equity and inclusion initiatives, and knowledge of issues that impact the retention and success of students from underrepresented populations.

  • Proven ability to work with diverse faculty, staff and students; ability to effectively collaborate with external and internal offices and stakeholders; ability to communicate with faculty, staff, students, and community members.
