The Program in Womenβs, Gender, and Sexuality Studies (WGSS) at Yale University seeks to hire a full-time, tenure-track faculty member at the level of Assistant Professor in Transgender Studies, beginning July 1, 2025.
The successful applicant will be expected to teach introductory, topics-based, and graduate-level courses in transgender studies, as well as to teach a broader range of courses required for the WGSS undergraduate major, the graduate certificate, and the doctoral program, on gender and sexuality studies topics and methods. The teaching expectation is normally 4 courses per academic year (2 per semester). In addition to their teaching responsibilities, faculty members are expected to engage in service to the program and to adviseΒ both undergraduate and graduate research.
In this search, we are open to scholars from any disciplinary or interdisciplinary background who substantively and centrally engage with the question of transgender experience, as well as with the scholarly field ofΒ transgender studies. We especially encourage applications from scholars with a focus on the intersections of trans and disability studies; trans studies and Black, Latinx, Native, Asian & Asian-American Studies, or other critical analyses of the overlapping structures of race and ethnicity, caste and religion; and transgender studies and regions of the Global South.
The appointee must hold a Ph.D. or equivalent degree or have completed all requirements for the Ph.D. at time of hire.
