Position Overview
The Lakota Advocacy Coordinator plays a pivotal role within Thunder Valley CDC, supporting
the design and implementation of the Lakota Advocacy Center. This position is instrumental in
advancing the organization’s mission of empowering Lakota youth and families and fostering
cultural identity and liberation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support Lakota Advocacy Center Development
  • Assist in developing the strategy and focus of the Lakota Advocacy Center inalignment with organizational goals and objectives
  • Contribute to the design and implementation of community engagement andΒ advocacy programs
  • Support the development of workflows, processes, and capacity-building plansΒ for effective Center operations
  • Community Engagement and Advocacy
  • Facilitate community involvement in advocacy initiatives and program activities
  • Assist in organizing and executing workshops, events, and outreach efforts toΒ engage community members
  • Foster relationships with key stakeholders and community leaders to amplifyΒ advocacy efforts
  • Capacity Building and Resourcing
  • Contribute to mapping out capacity-building initiatives to support the execution ofΒ the Center’s strategy
  • Assist in identifying and securing resources, including funding and partnerships,Β to sustain the Center’s operations
  • Support the development of a seven-year vision for the Center, collaborating onΒ milestone planning and implementation

Other Responsibilities
? Collaborate effectively with the Lakota Advocacy Center Director and other key team
members to ensure alignment with organizational objectives
? Work to ensure all initiatives are rooted in Lakol Wicohan
? Collaborate with initiatives to amplify and align the Lakota Advocacy Center with existing
programs and opportunities
? Ensure effective execution of programs and projects
? Ensure adherence to organizational processes and standards, and provide necessary
support and tools to the team
? Communicate regularly with the Lakota Advocacy Center Director to provide updates on
activities and progress
? Contribute to the fundraising efforts for the Center, including grant research, writing, and
donor engagement

Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills
? 2+ years of experience in community engagement role.
? Extensive knowledge of the region, local community, and Lakota culture.
? Self-starter, eager to learn and grow in the role, while expanding the reach of TVCDCs
involvement and voice in local and national community.
? Adept in public speaking and in communicating with a variety of personality styles.
? Passionate about TVCDC’s mission, eager to increase community engagement and
knowledge of the organization.
? Ability to plan, market/advertise, teach, and oversee applicable community
classes/workshops.

? Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including ability to effectively
communicate with community members, funders, and media/press.
? Proficient in Microsoft Office programs, adept in email/online navigation, with a
willingness to learn new software/programs as needed for success in position.
? Create and maintain collaborative work structures with other staff to increase
effectiveness of communication, marketing, community engagement, etc…
