Overview:

The Policy Director, under the direction of the Executive Director of the Mayor’s Office of Women’s Advancement (MOWA), collaborates with internal and external partners to advance the Mayor’s initiatives aimed at improving gender equity in Boston, with a focus on data and research related to women’s economic equity, safety, and representation.

The successful candidate possesses a desire and strong interest to work in local government.

Responsibilities:

  • Works with the Executive Director to develop the department's key policy initiatives and projects.
  • Provides research to inform decision-making on existing and proposed policies for the Office.Β 
  • Develops policy initiatives to address constituent issues identified through research or through community engagement from the MOWA team or partners.Β 
  • Collaborates with City departments, government agencies, and non-profit organizations in the area on policy and research projects that impact women and non-binary people.Β 
  • Writes or directs the writing of research reports published by the Office.Β 
  • Oversees periodic program evaluations, including selecting academic partners, drafting and reviewing agreements, project scopes, survey instruments, and report drafts.Β 
  • Represents the Office in public engagements as needed.Β 
  • Assists or manages special projects as needed.Β 
  • Maintains confidential department files and documents.Β 
  • Performs related work as required.

Minimum Entrance Qualifications:

  • At least four (4) years of full-time, or equivalent part-time, experience in public administration, public policy, human services, and research is required.Β 
  • A bachelor’s degree in a related field is preferred and may be substituted for the required experience.
  • Project management experience is highly desired.Β 
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and Google Suite.Β 
  • Strong customer service skills; strong written and oral communication, as well as interpersonal and organizational skills are preferred.Β 
  • Strong understanding of MOWA’s goals and objectives.Β 
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.Β 
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Bilingual preferred (Spanish, Haitian Creole, Cape Verdean Creole, Chinese, and Vietnamese).
