The Student Success and Advocacy Coordinatorβs primary role is to facilitate the effective functioning of individual students struggling in the college environment by using resources both within and outside the University. The Coordinator will manage student concerns through a variety of non-clinical interventions, referrals and follow-up services in collaboration with other University departments or individuals, community agencies, parents or guardians, and stakeholders in the studentsβ success.Job Description:
Responsibilities:
Student Success/Case Management: 75%
1. Provides support to students through a variety of non-clinical interventions, referrals and follow-up services in collaboration with other University departments or individuals, community agencies, parents or guardians, and stakeholders in the studentsβ success.
2. Participates in collaborative meetings with campus partners to support University-wide retention efforts. These campus partners may include Academic Assistance, Alcohol & Drug Education, Athletics, the Center for Interpersonal Connections, Trone Center for Mental Fitness, Accessibility Resources, Financial Aid, the Earle Student Health Center, Housing and Residence Life, Spiritual Life, Student Life and Student Conduct.
3. Assists students returning from hospitalization to engage with appropriate support services and to coordinate elements of the student success plan.
4. Serves as a resource for students, families and university staff in crisis situations to support student success and wellbeing.
5. Serves as a primary member on the Universityβs Student Intervention Team (βSITβ) and maintains appropriate documentation.
6. Maintains records as necessary to document and monitor the case management process and ensures appropriate utilization of services and facilitates continuity of care.
7. Provides consultation to students and families regarding referral to university and community resources, interpreting University policy and facilitating family support.
Advocacy: 10%
8. Trained to serve as a support person for students in the Title IX sexual misconduct resolution process.
9. Serves as a student advocate when necessary.
Collaboration: 10%
10. Establishes working relationships with community resources (i.e., physicians, therapists, psychiatrists, life coaches, hospitals). Maintains a directory of community resources available to students.
11. Encourages and facilitates referrals to the Trone Center for Mental Fitness for students who need mental health support beyond the scope of practice.
12. Completes performance review process with supervisor and employees to understand job performance expectations and how they fit into the department and University goals.
13. Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor in support of the goals and objectives of the Division of Student Life, and the University. Responsibility for Final Decisions:
Tasks involve interpretation of data and/or procedures to address problems or situations that are not clearly defined.Β Work involves non-routine/diverse work not defined by procedures.
Errors may cause delays in a particular phase of work or result in losses of time or expenditure and may have important effects in internal relationships.Β
Reports To: Associate Director of Student Success and Advocacy
Work is performed independently except where the interpretation of law, policy, rule, complex procedure or request for exception is required.
Education/Skill Requirements:
Masterβs degree in Higher Education, Student Affairs or applied health care field such as social work, counseling, psychology or nursing required.
Licensed or license-eligible in field of practice preferred.
Experience providing case management, consultation, crisis intervention, emergency response and/or outreach in a university, community mental health, social services, or health care setting.
Working advanced knowledge of fundamental fairness requirements and familiarity with FERPA, HIPAA and ADA compliance preferred.
Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills required.
Strong problem solving and conflict resolution skills required.
